AUTO & TRAILER REMODELS

(vintage trailer remodel)

Some people live in a trailer while working on home improvements. My version involved 4 months in a tent while working on my 1951 Scotsman Holiday vintage trailer. For $650/month, a little plot of dirt on a Bonny Doon hillside was “home”. It was a beautiful 18 acre property belonging to a local artist, and shared with multiple families and artisans also seeking “affordable housing”. It was rugged and perfect and unfortunately illegal without a trailer park permit so it didn’t last long in Santa Cruz’s pre-ADU law climate.

(1977 Chevy G-Series van)

My next remodel project called to me when I was living in an apartment by the Santa Cruz beach Boardwalk in 2023. Maybe it was the sandy footed passersby or the constant screams of joy and terror radiating from the boardwalk’s vacationers that inspired me to invest in another recreation vehicle. She’s a rusty 1977 army green sparkle Chevy G-series hi-top van. She’s in need of some major TLC and engine work. And she’s perfect.
